PLC Glossary F-M

False - In logic, the binary state of 0. The opposite of TRUE.

Flash Memory - non-volatile memory usually not requiring battery back-up. 

High Speed Counter - allows rapid pulses (pulses that are faster than the PLC scan time) to be counted independently.  Used in high speed counting or positioning applications.

Inputs - any switches or sensors connected to the PLC that provide input information. 

I/O - shorthand or abbreviation for Inputs and Outputs.

 Memory - component of the PLC where data and instructions are stored.
